Best Post-Hike Meal in East Glacier

While the world waits for the famed Going to the Sun Road to open, the best parts of Glacier are hidden away only to be discovered by those in the know of Glacier’s secret season. With a lighter snow year, the park’s sweetest spots are accessible this spring earlier than ever. Two Medicine and Many Glacier have been open since April. And after a day exploring the east side, all roads lead to Serrano’s.

After traveling (and eating) extensively in Mexico, Pat and Renee Schur followed their dreams and opened Serrano’s in a historic log cabin just outside of Glacier Naitonal Park. An East Glacier institution for 24 years, with the adjoining Backpacker’s Inn celebrating its 25th year of serving Glacier’s adventurers, Serrano’s serves up some mighty fine Mexican fare. My favorite dishes are the Party Nachos, Chile Rellenos and Plato Jose.

Chef Pat Schur now works side by side with son Wyatt in the kitchen creating hearty, flavorful plates for hungry hikers. Their special recipe margarita, just got a facelift with a new version introduced this season using homemade simple syrup and fresh squeezed lime juice (the rest of the recipe is still a secret).

You really can’t go to the east side of Glacier without plans for dinner at Serrano’s. It’s how you get back from a long hike, dreaming of the marg and rellenos…..
