The Last Best Plates - Exploring the Big Sky One Bite at a Time

Rich Peterson

Rich is a freelance journalist and documentary filmmaker living in his hometown of Poplar, Montana. He is an enrolled member of the Fort Peck Assiniboine & Sioux Tribes and is currently the media project coordinator for the Tribes' Language & Culture Department. During his journalism career he has worked for the Great Falls Tribune, USA Today, KULR-TV in Billings, The Fort Peck Journal, Aboriginal Voices Magazine in Toronto, Canada and the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian magazine. He has also written for the Associated Press and Montana Magazine. In his spare time [whisper] he likes doing beadwork, traveling, cooking, museums and music. He recently completed work on the documentary “Cante Etahan iyapi” (Language of the Heart), about the remaining Assiniboine and Dakota language speakers on the Fort Peck Reservation and the Tribes' language immersion program for youth.
