Life Is Uncertain. Eat Dessert First.

As a third generation Central Montanan, my love of this state runs deep. However, my relationship with Montana would best be described as bipolar; especially in winter. Those stormy frigid days when I just don’t think I can take it anymore, are always balanced out with the picture-perfect Big Sky wonders that make my camera and me so happy and grateful that this is where my grandparents chose to set down roots.

So what comes to mind on those down days is comfort food inspired by Mom, of course. I become obsessed with grilled cheese sandwiches, cobbler and pie. Though I’ve mastered the first, the other cozy confections require planning and an extra trip to the grocery store. Better than a long drawn out baking project, is a trip to visit the Main Street Bistro in Lewistown where chef Dave Pallett always has an excellent soup of the day. When his selections don’t fit my vegetarian protocol, I resort to my motto, “Life is uncertain. Eat dessert first.” Every day there is absolutely the best of all comfort desserts to be found–Bread Pudding, warm, cinnamon-infused, on a bed of caramel sauce.

As I write I’m thinking, ‘Come to me’. It’s not dreary out at present, but the power of suggestion has overtaken me. I’ve found my priority for today. Let’s meet at the Main Street Bistro.
